Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology

We started our journey in early 80s; myself as a Research Scholar in Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. I recall that that the project was “PENSIONERS IN CALCUTTA- A GERONTOLOGICAL STUDY. Subsequently, I was trained in Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology, JAPAN. Came back,1983 to start CALCUTTA METROPOLITAN INSTITUTE OF GERONTOLOGY CMIG with Research & Publication of Indian Journal of Gerontology “AGEING & SOCIETY”.

In the passage of time, more than two and half decades, CMIG is still a very small Institution. But Identified as Centre of Excellence in Gerontological Studies. We are conducting all training courses under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. Post Graduate Course on GERONTOLOGY & AGE CARE MANAGEMENT, Recognized by Calcutta University.

We have added many SERVICE domains like DAY CARE CENTRES, MOBILE MEDICARE UNITS for the underprivileged elderly.

Our strength is Research. Of late, we have taken the INITIATIVE OF TECHNOLOGY INTERVENTION FOR THE ASSISTIVE LIVING OF THE ELDERLY IN OUR SOCIETY.
