Description
Age Care Foundation was established as a charitable trust on 24th August 2012. It was sponsored by "Sneha Sandhya" a society of Senior Citizens working for the welfare of elders since 2004. We started, at "St.Joseph's Hospice", Visakhapatnam, conducting outpatient geriatric clinics across the city and old age home visits. Further expanded our outreach services by adding more out-patient clinics and old age homes. Clinics started in the One Town area and Daba Gardens, Visakhapatnam. Patients were screened for hypertension and diabetes in particular. The health checkups and medicines distributed were all provided free of cost. The Center for Palliative and Supportive Care moved into the main building of St.Joseph's Hospital, Visakhapatnam. The new facility offered more space and better facilities. We could offer comprehensive palliative care and gradually our patient intake increased. The outreach medical camps were further expanded to interior places like Chodavaram, where quite a large number of people have utilized our services. More and more Palliative Care awareness programs were conducted to sensitize the community about Palliative Care and its critical need in patient care. The then Principal Secretary of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Mrs Poonam Malakondaiah, visited the hospice.
Age Care Foundation moved into the new office premises in Pithapuram Colony, Visakhapatnam. Dr M.R. Raja Gopal, Chairman, Pallium India (Trust) was the guest of honour on the Seventh Foundation day of ACF. He addressed many gatherings of doctors and medical students in Visakhapatnam and surrounding districts and supported us in awareness creation and sensitization of the health care providers.
