Welcare Vatsalya is a project which has been conceptualised more as a service rather than a business.

Indian society has transformed dramatically in the last 4 decades. The typical family unit has changed from being a joint family to a nuclear family. Employment dynamics have made it commonplace for the parental generation to let go of their children and live the latter part of their lives by themselves. At the same time, engaging home-help and similar manpower is becoming increasingly cost prohibitive. There is an acute dearth of dependable and trained caregivers in our country.

To add to these changing societal patterns is the fact that the average lifespan of Indians is increasing with every passing decade and a major portion of our society is now populated with people living beyond 80 years. All the above factors have resulted in an extremely challenging, sad and stressful situation in thousands of households. There are increasing instances of mentally and/or physically ill senior family members who require intensive assistance, quite often involving medical care, to live with dignity. Transitional care from hospital to home is especially challenging for non-medico family members of discharged patients.

The previously described aspects of life make it an immensely difficult, if not an impossible, situation for the affected individual and their family members despite their love for each other. Welcare Vatsalya is an effort specifically designed to resolve this challenging and complex problem faced by today’s society.
